By the OER Project Team
We’re counting down the days to July 9, 2025, and we can barely contain our excitement! OER Project is about to get a major upgrade, and we can’t wait for you to see what’s in store. Our team has been working hard to make your teaching journey smoother, more connected, and more inspiring than ever.
Here’s what’s coming your way...
New Courses
New versions of Big History Project, World History Project, and World History Project AP® will be published on July 9. The new versions will be as rigorous and in-depth as ever, but with a more streamlined, user-friendly approach whether you use the full courses or only select materials. We'll have a lot more to show you over the next month!
A New Home for the Teacher Community
We heard you! Navigating the Teacher Community has sometimes felt like a maze, so we’re making it easier to connect and collaborate. After a brief closure (July 4 through July 7), the Community will reopen on July 8. Come see the makeover, including the new Teachers’ Lounge—your go-to spot for updates, news, and course-specific subgroups for Climate Project, Big History Project, World History Project, and World History Project AP. Jump in, ask questions, and chat with fellow educators—no more guessing where to post!
Simplified Classroom Management
Starting July 8, we’re retiring classroom and assignment management, student accounts, and student-data features. What does this mean for you? Next year, you can share OER Project materials directly to your LMS (just like you’ve always done), or have students interact with materials right on our site as a Google or Word Doc—no more extra logins or assigning materials. It’s all about making things easier and more flexible for you and your students.
To protect student data, practice questions and their associated data will no longer be stored within the platform. But don’t worry, you’ll still have full access to all existing practice questions in easy-to-use Google Doc format.
Plus, practice opportunities remain available through Khan Academy for Climate Project, Big History Project, WHP Origins, and WHP AP courses. Your students can keep engaging with quality practice anytime, anywhere.
A One-Stop Shop for Resources
Once our course updates go live on July 9, you’ll notice even more improvements rolling out. Our blog, teacher resources, and professional learning events will now be front and center on oerproject.com, under the improved For Teachers tab in the navigation bar (formerly titled Teaching OER Project). Everything you need, all in one place!
- Sleek New Topic Pages
Soon after the course updates are published, we’ll be giving our topic pages a facelift—they’ll showcase the latest and greatest OER Project materials in style. - New Materials, New Links
After the new courses are published on July 9, many of the links to material that you know, and love will automatically redirect to new material. If you find that some of the links you’ve shared to your LMS are broken, don’t worry. You have two options:- Use our new-and-improved search feature to find material that fits your instructional need; or
- Reach out to team@oerproject.com and we’ll send you a link to a Google Drive version of the material you’re looking for.
-
Clever Login: It’s (Still) Alive
We know how easy Clever login is for teachers and we aren’t taking that functionality away. You’ll still be able to use your SSO to gain access to all the great OER Project resources. However, because we’ve removed student login and classroom management features, we have removed Clever integration for students.
We know change can be unsettling, so we wanted to give you a heads-up now. We’re here to make this transition smooth and exciting, and we’re confident these updates will make your OER Project experience better than ever.
