Want to join the Arkansas' largest teacher run Social Studies organization? The Arkansas Council for the Social Studies is a state affiliate of the National Council for the Social Studies. Become a member and gain access to resources for your classroom, online live binders, and collaborate with fellow Social Studies teachers across the state through our social media and email listserv! 10:00AM Q&A on James Madison Fellowship Olivia Lewis
The James Madison Memorial Fellowship Foundation offers $24,000 James Madison Graduate Fellowships to individuals desiring to become outstanding teachers of the American Constitution at the secondary school level. Fellowship applicants compete only against other applicants from the states of their legal residence. As funding permits, the Foundation plans to offer one fellowship per state per year. Olivia Lewis, the 2016 Arkansas Fellow, will answer questions regarding the application process, eligibility, obligations, and benefits of being a James Madison Memorial Fellow.

Have you been nominated for the Gilder Lehrman History Teacher of the Year? This award recognizes exceptional K–12 American history teachers across the country. This discussion panel will be led by past recipients of the award who will discuss the application process, description of the award, and the importance of the award. Panelists will also answer questions as time allows.

Advocacy for social studies is needed now, more than ever. Join Stefanie Wager as she shares practical resources from the NCSS Advocacy Toolkit to help you advocate for social studies in your own context.


1:00PM  Econ, Finance, Competitions...Oh My! Marsha Masters
This fast paced session will spotlight turnkey lessons and resources available at your fingertips covering economics and financial literacy. Additionally, learn about student competitions with great prizes. All participants will receive a choice of a free book or curriculum guide for attending.


2:00PM  Humanities in the Classroom - Grants, Lesson Plans, and More Ann Clements
Looking for humanities-based resources for your classroom? Need grant money for professional development, classroom projects, or field trips that have strong humanities content? Want a chance for fun door prizes? The Arkansas Humanities Council can help! This 2-hour virtual workshop will introduce you to the grant programs available to PK-12 Arkansas teachers and librarians, along with resources and lesson plans focusing on humanities content for your classroom. Opportunities to participate in a K-5 pilot lesson plan program will also be discussed. Presentation to be followed by your questions and suggestions for how the Arkansas Humanities Council can assist you.


3:00PM  Arkansas Center for Civic Engagement Dr. Randell E. Trammell
This session will introduce to you the opportunities for teachers and students through the ACCE.  The purpose of the ACCE is to educate and equip students to become informed and active citizens.
