Writing has become increasingly emphasized in social studies classrooms. Yet, the actual teaching of writing in social studies is rarely discussed. However, in this Track Talk, that’s all we’re going to do! We will examine how one-on-one writing conferences can be used to support students in overcoming challenges they encounter when writing about history. We will delve into the overall arc of conferences, as well as the “moves” teachers can use to leverage students’ strengths to get them unstuck in their writing. The session will conclude by examining the logistics of making this work online and in-person.
