Using Action Civics to Turn Pain Into Power

When we take the time to create student-centered classrooms and let our students' curiosity drive the learning, we can see an increase in engagement and content understanding.  Thurgood Marshall Academy students did just that while they were grieving the death of two of their peers in one school year. Using Mikva Challenge’s Action Civics curriculum, students recognized the power in their lived experiences to launch deeper learning, meet with city leaders and demand a safer city for us all.
