On Location! Videos

When I started with OER, I taught Big History, and one thing students loved about it was David Christian's on-location videos around the world. The content of WHP is better aligned with my needs but doesn't have the same level of visual engagement.  I augment Africa lessons with various segments of the BBC's History of Africa with Zainab Badawi and Aztec lessons with the History Channel's Engineering an Empire, both of which have great information, real visual connections to the people and places we're studying, and engage 9th graders well.  What other visual resources do teachers use to show off the people, places, and cultures of the world's varied societies?

  • My students and I also love these videos! I believe  mentioned having a poster of him or John green in her classroom due to a hype around the videos in her classroom as well. Laura am I remembering this correctly? Someone in the community has posters of him, if not Laura! 

    Have you checked out Vice or Vox News clips ? Both tend to cover more current events, but I found myself using them as a resource when I needed to supplement for World History.

      you have a great memory! One of my students was indeed so enthusiastic about David Christian's videos that he printed a gigantic photo of his face, which I placed next to the Threshold posters."
