Fun with Language

Jason Manning
Jason Manning over 2 years ago

As I started Unit 6 and I am prepping for Investigation #6 "How is Human Language Different from other Species?"  I used a lesson that was shared with me from my colleague Todd Nussen , now I am pretty sure that it was given to Todd from someone else in the community so I want to give a big shout out to whoever created this because the kids loved it.  I am paying it forward by highlighting the lesson again, the directions are self explanatory and you can take it in many different directions but it really shows students how important language is to human development and the role language plays in collective learning.

One year, my kids were fascinated by marriage and monogamy. I remember reading a fair amount about the history of marriage.   It dovetailed nicely with how we prove things happen and indirect evidence.   At one point we had a real discussion on if two people holding hands in a grave would be evidence for something like marriage.   We decided no.

Glad you liked it!   It's usually a hit for me.   Those answers were awesome, did you use the words provided in the activity or did you make your own?

Chris Scaturo  The activity required them to use only the vocabulary provided, but some students weren’t completely strict about it.
