History as Mystery- 9/11

Hi All!

Like many of you, I conduct the "History as Mystery" activity about the Headless Romans at the start of the year.  However, it just occurred to me that this activity is usually right around the same time at 9/11.  Has any done the same type of activity (or thought about it) by swapping out the story of the Romans with that of 9/11?  Anyone have a good resource (short video/reading) that has kindof a "what caused this?" tone for September 11th?  Any thoughts?

Hi Philip, this is an interesting idea. While I have not done the History as Mystery activity with my students (I start much later in history), it looks like a great activity. I think your idea could work but what in particular do you want your students to get out of the activity? 9/11 can be an interesting topic to teach (especially since I'm in New York, not far from Manhattan) so I'm very aware of tone. The 9/11 Museum has a lot of great free videos and articles that I have used over the years (https://www.911memorial.org/learn). There is this one section that has oral histories that are very short (less than 5 minutes each and there's quite a few of them) so maybe you can have students choose a few of those to listen to and reflect on? Including Bryan Dibble Gwen Duralek Laura Massa to weigh in on this
