Evolution Comic Success

A few weeks ago I posted that I was going to be out for a couple of days but that I wanted my students to do something productive.  I had never done the Evolution comic activity before but I thought I'd give it try.  I'd have to say that overall, it was a success so I thought I'd share some examples.  One of my measurements of whether or not an activity worked is when even the bad examples aren't so bad, so I shared one or two of those as well.  Curious if others have done this activity before and what modifications they might have made.  Also, I'm looking to do another cartoon activity again in the future.  Anyone else use this for a different unit/topic and have a positive experience?

Wow, these really turned out great Todd Nussen . I'm thinking about trying out this activity. How long did they have to work on this?

I figured I would hop in again and share some of the results created by my 6th graders. In an effort to streamline a bit, I did 6 panels. The goal was to have this be completed in a class session. However, if students wanted to take them home to do more, it was encouraged. Overall, a pretty excellent way to show their thinking!

These are fantastic Meaghan Mihalic and thanks for sharing! Did the kiddos enjoy doing them? I always used to have some kids that found this comic harder to do than the stars one.

Bridgette OConnor Without being hyperbolic, I gotta say, this was an absolute keeper! Not only that, they all really want to see all of the other ones made by students in other sections. I decided to stuff them in plastic cover sheets and put them in a binder. It's become a sort of 'early finisher' free reading option in class. Even students who don't necessarily fancy themselves as being artists got into this. I can post even more pictures if anyone would find it useful!
