Videos about Space and Time Scales

Gustavo Lau
Gustavo Lau 11 months ago

Hi,

I want to share this YouTube playlist about scales of space and time that has some old classic videos and some more recent ones:
www.youtube.com/playlist

Here is a draft article where I explain the process that led me to create this playlist: Space and Time Scales: A Big History YouTube Playlist

I have used it for lesson 1.1 of the Big History course: https://www.oerproject.com/Big-History/Unit-1/1-1-Scale

I hope you find it fun and useful,
Gustavo Lau
PS: I also used this website: www.jpl.nasa.gov/.../

Gustavo Lau , Thanks for this resource!

I do recognize some oldies and I am intrigued by ones I have not yet seen.

I bookmarked this page to go back to when I need new scale ideas. Is there a way to tag your original post so others can find this when they search the topic in the Community?

    Hi Donnetta Elsasser ,

I'm glad that you are enjoying the playlist.

The post has the tag "scale", so it should appear in the results when people search for scale.

Please note that I just added a link to a draft article about the playlist.

    Thank you,

    Gustavo

    Excellent resources Gustavo Lau !

I particularly really enjoy those videos "To Scale: The Solar System" and "To Scale: Time." They're so well done and even a little tear jerker-y at the end - just thinking about how small we are in this abyss of time and space!

Are there any in particular that your students really took to from your playlist?

Thank you for your comments, Adam Esrig.

My students particularly enjoyed the original "Powers of Ten" and the "Cosmic Calendar" videos. The contrast between Carl Sagan and Neil deGrasse Tyson’s styles was a talking point.
