How do you use the "Collective Learning" article series?

There are four parts to the whole article, spread over at least three units.

For the first part, in BHP Threshold 6, I have the students use a Cornell notes sheet but with a twist. Instead of using an Essential Question for the whole article, I ask a question for intentional notetaking. I tell students they are only allowed to take notes on the part of the article that would help answer the question.

Then, instead of an article summary at the end, I have the students use their notes to write a short paragraph to answer the question. My take on it is not that far out of the Cornell ordinary, but I feel like it helps students make better decisions about what to take notes on.

Here is a student work sample.

Do you use the full 4-part article series? Do you use any of it? In what ways?

This is an excellent way to get students to interact with the content and to make connections to their own lives Donnetta Elsasser   I have used the articles with my students, but in the online world I reside in, we are only together for 1 hour a week so many of these best practices get left on the sideline for me.
