Practice Unit Questions. Can AI help me?

Laura Massa
Laura Massa 4 months ago

I’m wrapping up Unit 1 of Big History, and one of my students asked for practice exercises to prepare for the unit quiz. In the past, we had excellent exercises with useful feedback that students really valued. I know the new version doesn’t include them, but I found this archive from the OER. For those with more AI expertise: is there a way to input the questions along with their rationale/explanations and generate them in a format similar to what used to appear on the website? Bryan Dibble DL Harding

The doc you linked needs to be shared, but without seeing it I know it will work.  Upload the old style, tell Chat what it is, and use plenty of details.  Upload your information to study, then tell Chat you want a model like the old one.  Might take some extra "teaching" but I'm confident it will work.  I took the Big History Project “Disciplines” cards and had Chat creat some cards for me to use in my Great Inventions class.  So it can take a lesson plan about one topic and remake the plan with another topic.  Requires uploading all the examples.  Let me know if I can help.  Laura Massa

Bryan Dibble I just made the doc sharable. Thank you for the catch. I gave instructions to Chat and it gave me the questions and answers as in a regular quiz. What I meant with my request is to get a format similar to the old one. I attached a snapshot of what it was before. I will try to train Chat but before all the attempts, I want to ask in this forum it that would be possible to get.

What you want is the line underneath the answer explaining why the answer is right or wrong, right?

in you instructions include directions like:

write five multiple choice questions with five believable answers.  Include the rationale in a few sentences why each option is correct or incorrect. For the right answer provide more details to make the answer richer and for the incorrect answer provide why it isn’t the best choice and what needs to be added or changed to make it a strong answer.

Chris Scaturo yes, that is what I want, but I would like to use the exercises and explanations given by the OER following the MCQ format and when students click the answer, they receive the explanation.

Okay it suggested I do it in Google slides.

    It made me a

    template that I can’t share

from my phone.  If you need it before this weekend send me an email at scaturo@gmail.com

Chris Scaturo do you mean that I can create a Google Slide to display the explanations for each question? That  could work. If you have done it and would like to share, I'would really appreciate it. My students took the quiz yesterday, but I want to continue incorporating practice exercises in each unit as I did before. They told me that practising and checking their knowledge was very useful for their understanding.

    See if that works.

It's a rough template but it kinda works.   I bet the kids could make one waaaaaay better.

Thank you so much Chris Scaturo Yes, it works! You gave me an idea, maybe students who are taking computer classes can help.
