Hot off the presses video with tons of Big History connections!

Good afternoon, Big Historians!

Just watched a fantastic video made by Hank Green and published in Aeon Weekly today about an image of Earth from Artemis II. There are tons of Big History connections in it and would be great to show students to help them do some scale switching!

Would love to hear how you all would use this video in your classrooms and how students responded to it.

This is so very timely Bridgette OConnor  as we’re only in the first week of school in New York. Scale switching is such an important first skill - usually one that really staggers students’ minds when you think of the vastness of time and space. I’ll be pairing this with either or both of the “To Scale” videos which are also stellar if people aren’t familiar:

    - To scale time

    - To scale the solar system

Bridgette OConnor I think this video would fit very well into the introductory unit on Big History. I currently use this short video by Neil deGrasse Tyson but the one you shared has such powerful images and invites deeper reflection on the fragility of our existence on this planet.

I might also consider using it to close the course, as an invitation for students to reflect on what it means to be human and what it means to live on this precious planet.

That's a great video, Laura! I really like the idea of using the Hank Green video as an end-of-course reflection. If/when you use it, please let us know how it goes!
