How has your community been impacted by climate change?

It’s so important for people to connect with anything they are learning so they understand why it's relevant to their lives. What are some ways you help students to see the consequences of climate change in your local communities?

Hurricane Sandy really took a toll on Oceanside, NY (where I teach) and Long Beach, NY (where I lived at the time).

Wow! Those pictures are incredible, Todd Nussen ! Never thought I'd hear hurricane and New York in the same sentence, but it sure seems as if it's becoming more common.

We've always dealt with them but they have become more consistent and severe.

Yeah, I can't believe it's been almost 12 years. How long was school closed for, two weeks?

It feels like just yesterday. I will never forget jumping in the truck with my dad to go help my uncle tear his house down to studs in LBI. We had to get ID'd by troopers on route 72 before we got to his house. The looting had been so bad. It was the most dystopian experience of my life.
