I was recently working on the sea-level rise lessons in class and was pleased to see how readily my students made the connection. We live within driving distance of NY City but we don't really think of ourselves as living close to the sea. But my students (who are struggling learners) easily made the connection that as NYC begins to be impacted by sea level rise, many people will begin moving into our area. They then easily made the jump to the impact this would have on agriculture, as we live in a rural farming area. They were busy brainstorming ways to accommodate an influx of people and maintain our agricultural land and continue to grow food, manage population and manage pollution and weather climate impacts at the same time. The lessons were structured in such a way as to guide the students and let them make the connections. They really impressed me!
