History of Me is a great way to introduce students to historical thinking skills! Here are a few techniques that I use to make it work for my middle school students:
- I provide a template with one Google Slide where students come up with three thresholds for their own lives. They add images and personalize them however they want. Once they are posted, they are a great way to community build and find connections at the start of the year!
- I ask students to brainstorm a threshold moment that happened before they were born that had an effect on their lives today. Then, they write these moments on speech bubbles, which I will add to the personal timelines (probably as a border).
As you use the activity “History of Me”, what are some strategies that work with your students?
