Buddhism and the Stones

I was pretty proud of this assignment today.  Just sharing....

Mick Jagger says,
" You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometime you'll find
You get what you need."

On a scale of 1 to America, how in line is this with the teaching of Buddha?   Defend your answer.

I wonder, could different students be assigned this line with different religions?

And Chris, it must be a blast to be a student of yours.

And Boom, now we have something better.   I think I am going to give them a bunch of old rock song lyrics now and see which religion they are most closely connected with.

Also, I admonished one student yesterday when they failed to identify a Bowie song.   I told the kid his parents were failures.  That student was my son.

And I am totally cherry picking the best answers here but some of the kids didn't disappoint:

I'd give it a solid Richmond, Virginia. I think that "you can't always get what you want" is the base teaching of Buddha. There is also an idea of finding enlightenment if you do certain things. It is arguable that this is truly "what you need."

Rhode Island because Buddhism helps you acheive inner peace and if you work for what you want to get or acheive, you will get it. Buddhism will help you stop wanting everything and only want what you need.

The whole 17 miles of Staten Island, New York, Buddha wanted people suffering to be able to live in "nirvana" but without wanted because without want, there would be no suffering or frustration.

    This years answers:

On a scale of 1 to America, this quote is Hawaii because Buddhism is based on want and desire being the cause of suffering. To limit this suffering, one must follow the eightfold path, which is mainly focused on the right intentions, mindfulness, and action.

California, because Buddha taught in one of his Four Noble Truths, that suffering leads to desire because he used to be a prince and chose to then live a poor lifestyle but if he tried he could get what he needed, just not everything wanted like alcohol and comfortable mattresses.

    I added on this year:

Now, what  song do you think represents the beliefs of Buddhism?

Send me, Mrs. O'Meara and Bradley:

    a link to the song
The lyrics that represent Buddhism (at least 4 lines)
    And an explanation why

Most of the answers were bad to nonsenical (or AI generated) but this one I thought was spot on.

    Katy Perry Roar
"So I sat quietly, agreed politely
    I guess that I forgot I had a choice
I let you push me past the breaking point
I stood for nothing, so I fell for everything
You held me down, but I got up"
I think these lyrics represent Buddhism because Buddhism tries to break the standards that the Hindu's created. The Buddhists thought everyone was equal and even let women become priests because they thought that everyone had a chance to start anew. I think this  song represents Buddhism because it's telling people to do stuff they wouldnt and to not give up.
