Great Migration

Greetings all!

Not related to the time of farms to empires but a connection nevertheless. I am currently reading Land of Hope by Professor James Grossman. One aspect that I found really interesting was that heading north meant giving up on owning land which was one of the main status symbols for African Americans after the Civil War. I had never considered that to be a factor. So many interesting perspectives to consider surrounding these big-time events and no two stories seem to be alike.

What an interesting connection! I am also curious to know if this was an unintended consequence - similar to how Brown v. BOE led to a significant decrease in the number of Black educators.
