Early Farmers v. Hunter Gatherers

I am finally approaching Unit 7 of BHP and have been spending the week unpacking how hunter gatherer lifestyles are different from early farmers. We read Sapiens in my class and have been pulling quotes and sharing comments, opinions, and questions.

As I close out chapter 5 of Sapiens with my students, I was wondering if anyone has any must do activities when covering the transition to the Agricultural Revolution. Has anyone ever had a debate on who lead a more affluent life- foragers or farmers?

Hi Adriane Musacchio ! I've done this marketing activity (adapted from a WHP activity) for foraging vs. farming that's generally well received and ends up being a great review activity. I keep it to one 50 minute period and leave time at the end of class for presentations. I've occasionally pulled in another teacher to be the "big boss" who decides which ad is most compelling.

This was one of my favorite ads. The bottom part was designed to fold down dramatically during the presentation Laughing

I totally tried this out as an extension activity last week- thank you for sharing this!!! This is such a great concept to apply to any content really. In order to make a marketing poster of any kind, students must exhibit both understanding and analysis skills. Perfect for an end of unit activity or topic sum up! I’ll be keeping this in mind for other units as well!

That's great to hear! And I like that it's something you can "accordion"--extend to a full-scale project when you have the time or reduce to a quick formative check when you don't!
