We enjoyed this activity today, and I just wanted to share what my students ended up concluding from it all. They created Venn diagrams comparing the two dynasties and shared what the fall of each had in common and what made each unique. After a lively discussion and sharing and comparing, we discussed which of the two dynasties could have more easily been saved. Then, I asked...which of the two SHOULD have been saved over the other. One interesting student comment followed another until the conclusion was...neither. The students remarked on the necessity of collapse sometimes because of the jolt to the system that energizes change, reform and new possibilities. What do you think? Have other classes had similar conversations?
