India's Partition????

McCalla Hill
McCalla Hill over 1 year ago

Hi all!
I am headed into era 7 of the big history project. I was already planning to look at the ways that WW2 impacted many of the British colonies, specifically looking at the creation of Israel and the partition of India. I see a resource regarding Israel, but is there nothing in ERA 7 about India's partition??

thx

Hi McCalla Hill great question, and definitely a topic that's so important to include in any study of the 20th century. I use this video as an intro which does spend a fair amount of time on decolonization in India.  Then I'll use the reading that Anne Koschmider posted. I wrap things up with a quick sourcing activity to get my students ready for an upcoming mini-DBQ. This is the doc set that I use during decolonization.

My quick source is limited to a post-it note / index card activity. At this point in the class, the students need to be efficient in their analysis, so I do limit the physical space they have to write to encourage that. These are all lessons that I've done in the past and will complete this week -- pictures of student work coming soon. :)
