Three minute pause

Three-Minute Pause (https://mail.readingquest.org/3mp.html) I am working with students to become more engaged in their learning. While watching a video or after reading a primary source, I have been stopping mid-way and having students team up in small groups for a "three-minute" pause. They summarize what they have learned, then identify something they found interesting, and finally ask any questions about confusing information or to make predictions of what they might learn next. This helps students to learn and store new information. By pausing every 10-15 minutes, it also allows us to "fix" new information into memory. What other strategies do you use that help students with this process?

How often do you do this? It sounds pretty neat. I guess I am wondering if it’s a daily routine or like a once a week thing. Seems like a cool trick for the tool bag of teaching.

Adriane Musacchio Ooh, I like your idea way better! My students are skilled at finding quotes, but could use work with explaining why the quote is relevant.

Chris Scaturo For me I use this more as a routine so we try to do this weekly at least.
