New Yuval Noah Harari Book

I know that a lot of teachers in this community are fans of Harari's book Sapiens (if you haven't already read it, I highly recommend checking it out).  I just finished his most recent book, Nexus. In the book he uses many lessons of history to help readers make sense or the impact AI might have on humanity.  There's a lot to unpack in the reading, but it's well worth the read if you're interested in this stuff.  While I don't see myself necessarily using excerpts in class, it certainly made me better equipped to have these types of conversations in my class. Curious if anyone else has read it yet.  What do we think?

  • Your post is perfect timing. I am wondering if teachers are using AI in the classroom to help them with their lessons.  I am also wondering how classroom assignments have been changed to make sure students are not just handing in work by AI. This book looks like an interesting place to start. 

  • I have not read it yet but it's certainly on my list and I do wonder if it would also fit will with any Origins or BHP culminating project.  Did you finish? Do you plan on using it?

    One of the positive takeaway from the book addresses exactly what you're bringing up: humans using AI as a tool to improve our lives.  Personally, I'm working at an embryonic level at this point when it comes to AI in the classroom.  I'll often encourage my students to use if I believe it might enrich or enhance an activity.  For example: my students did the hunter-gatherer menu activity a few months ago and I told them that when they were done designing their dishes and menus they could input their ingredients into an AI tool to create a visual of the dish.  They were actually pretty funny.
