I love the beautiful graphic bios that the OER project has made, but I have never been sure how to use them in class. Can others speak to what has worked or not worked when using these one-page graphic bios in their classrooms?
Thank you!

Hi Anais Garvanian ! I like to mix it up - sometimes we do group discussion focusing on the Evaluate questions, sometimes we use the Three Close Reads for Graphic Biographies tool, and sometimes students work in partners to do a Cyber Sandwich assignment (like this).
Hi Anais Garvanian - thanks for your question!
I have used graphic bios or some pages from graphic novels/histories as part of a larger stations activities that I do during classtime.
For instance, I might use this one about Domingo Alvarez as part of my student's explorations on the Transatlantic Slave Trade.
Or you can use them in conversation with each other - pair students up and have them create a hypothetical conversation. You can use this chart to help find those from the same time period depending on the course you are teaching.
I just used the new graphic biography 3 close reads tool. It is brilliant. I recommend it.
