How are you making connections between local and global events in the classroom? Any activities that help students scale up and down in this area?

I wonder how teachers are connecting ideas from their local histories to modern events? Are there any assignments that guide students from people in their town and tying them to modern global events?  Here is an an article I found after visiting a small museum in Iron Mountain, Michigan. I have to find a way to tie it in.

  •   , this is a great question. One thought I had was to introduce the concept of scale -- and shifting scale -- to get a better understanding of an event. Using a local museum could tie into the early industrial revolution. I know there is a reading on how a small town in Wales (?) was changed by the IR. Perhaps you could make a connection to your area.

    Thank you for these ideas. Yes, I am trying to find more ideas from local sources. Sometimes the best connections are hiding in plain sight. We still have a Gold Medal painted sign painted on the side of one of our brick buildings in town. I need to find out more about it and when it was painted.
