Student control of Lexile level for online course?

I teach an online course using Canvas.  I do have the modules for the 1750-present World History class but I would prefer to use the online embed articles if possible.  Can I give my students the ability to toggle the Lexile level, audio and Spanish version themselves?  I tried embedding the article in a Canvas activity and it is showing in Student View as not accessible.  I am thinking these options are only available at the instructor level OR I have to have the students enrolled in an actual OER classroom which is a lot of extra work.  Also, our IT department warns about integrating too many apps with our Canvas classes.  Thoughts?

Thank you for the help.  Yes I have the module cartridges to work with.  I relooked at the published reading assignments after posting this and the embed feature worked fine.  The students do have access to change reading level and language.  I guess the OER file and the Canvas assignment page needed that little extra time to sync.  Embedding actually worked from the simple Embed and the Canvas options of sharing the fully functional OER page.  Best.
