Midterms are quickly approaching for us and I am wondering what others do for their end-of-semester assessments/projects? I am usually in the middle of the Industrial Revolution unit and have done Shark Tank projects in the past.

Ashley Hartman in my school we give a two-hour midterm exam for all core courses so unfortunately the option of projects is not viable.
I teach Big History and a comprehensive project such as the Little Big History Project is a great way to wrap up the year. If you teach another course, you can adapt the activity to the topics you have covered. It can be done in groups or individually and it is always fun and engaging. I recommend including a creative component to encourage students to expand their imagination and connect the content with an aesthetic dimension.
I highly recommend using the DBQ's that the OER Provides at the end of each unit as your test. The DBQ's are a great way for students to show the knowledge they have been learning throughout the year. Also, you can keep track of student progress in the manage classes tab of the OER site.
