Christmas break is almost here, yay. Somehow, this year, I completed the Industrial Revolution a week earlier than I had planned, and I had a week before Christmas. I didn't want to start Imperialism and have my students forget everything, so I decided we would learn about using art as a means for social commentary. I spent Monday talking about what social commentary was and how Charles Dickens used his writing to expose more people to the problems of the Industrial Revolution. We also discussed how music and other modern art forms were used to make social commentary. Now, we are going to watch the 2005 Oliver Twist movie so the kids can see the problems for themselves. What are you doing the week before the break?
