Has anyone tried the CCOT Introduction Activity with something other than the farm images? Looking for something very engaging and teenage-friendly for a special class of kids that need a little extra . Like, a PRE-Introduction lesson?

Hi Julianne Horowitz , I've used clothing trends to help introduce CCOT. I learned a lot from my students about what they think is cool fashion-wise and it was fun for them to be the experts. I think it also helps show that continuities tend to be broader trends while changes can range from small tweaks to sweeping revolutions.
The Evolution of Dance can be a fun CCOT intro! youtu.be/p-rSdt0aFuw
This is a GREAT idea - very student-friendly! Do you have anything put together that I can build from?
Anne Koschmider I'm mesmerized by this video! Thank you for sending it my way - this is so great. Do you have any particular tasks or discussion points to pair with it to get me going on my creation?
Julianne Horowitz I post a CCOT thesis template and have students plug in info about changes and continuities in dance styles as a trial run for writing a history-related thesis.
Great! Do you do the axis/post-it thing?
Erin Cunningham do you pair this with the post-it/axis activity from the CCOT Intro?
Honestly, it was a very informal conversation. Kids were struggling with continuities so it was a spur of the moment conversation to help them grasp the concept.
But you could totally formalize it! It would be cool to create a slide with the axes and have kids insert pictures. It would also help illustrate that there's argumentation to CCOT--especially with the positive and negative axes.
Hi Julianne Horowitz, I am thinking about having each table group choose a topic (fashion, country music, sports, etc.) and having each student in the group find an article about their chosen topic from each century (1700s, 1800s, 1900s, today). Once they have found their article, they will complete the CCOT Introduction Activity with that information.
