Hung up on Quick Sourcing Note Cards

Kate Kipp
Kate Kipp 7 months ago

Hello, I am really wanting to use the quick-sourcing tool, but I am having a hard time wrapping my brain around it especially enough to be able to explain it to my children/students. I don't want to simply have them answer the questions on the tool worksheet. Can someone advise me on what we should be putting on notecards? This is not my primary subject, and I really want to utilize the tools to our full extent.

Hi @Kate Kipp, that has been a sticking point for me too. I made my own version of the Quick Sourcing Tool that includes guidance for how I have students use the notecards - here's an example.

Hi Kate Kipp ! I completely understand your confusion as I remember the first time I looked at it I felt a similar way. Anne Koschmider 's example is great and I sometimes do a version similar to that. Sometimes I just have them do the first part though, especially if I use it as a Do Now activity. They have to summarize in no more than 2-3 bullets one of the sources from the collection that I assign them (or sometimes they pick their source) and do one of the letters of HAPP (again in only a handful of bullets using the guiding questions there to help them). At the beginning of the year it takes about 10 minutes by the more we do it, it will eventually be a 5 minute activity. Hope this helps!
