Changing Gender Roles?

Freda Anderson

OER source search! I am doing a thematic unit right now about gender, and one of the things I want to highlight is that the expectations/standards for different genders that SEEM like they have always been here are actually VERY contextual and constantly changing. So for example "men are expected not to wear makeup" but then we can see in Egypt and many places that in fact, they very much were and are expected to.

OER has this great article about this! https://www.oerproject.com/OER-Materials/OER-Media/PDFs/AP-World-History/Unit5/Changing-Gender-Roles which has amazing images that really help!

But I am looking for MORE! Haha. I am looking for the best sources from OER that exemplify different gender expectations across time and across the world. Any support would be deeply appreciated!

Freda Anderson I love this topic! Thank you for starting the post and for sharing the article which I was unaware of its existence. I am eager to see what other materials are available on the OER. In fact, before the break, we were discussing in class that gender roles were not ascribed by society during Paleolithic times. I would be a great activity to circle back and introduce this concept when we teach the age of foragers.
