What do you do for sub plans?

My husband is dealing with a pretty major health issue this year, and in turn, I have missed more school this year than anyone in the past. I have some tried and true assignments for sub plans, but I thought I would see what you guys do. Does anyone have a rock star assignment that works great on a day you have a sub? My current method of having a sub is assigning a worksheet on Google Classroom for my students to complete, but I would love some ideas that are a bit more outside the box. 

  • Letter writing is something that I have done, especially for an absence that was last minute. If I didn't have time to prepare something directly tied to up-to-the minute content for each class, I pulled out some prefabricated lessons.

    Letters of opinion based on a current event they research and explain.

    Letters to me explaining which Subs they like better or worse and why (apply necessary parameters for how they explain) They seal these in a large envelope that is delivered only to me.

    Letters of advice _______________ about __________________ (you can get pretty creative with this one!

    Letters to the principal to share a detailed suggestion for how he/she could make the school better.

    Topics can go on and on. And if they get done writing too soon they can pair up and share. And if that gets done too soon pairs can pair up. Not too much work for the Sub, just monitoring.

  • I do what is easy for me and students, and what I never usually do in the classroom - this includes EdPuzzles that are self-graded. You can edit them if you want and include short answer.
