New Class and You're the Teacher!

Katie Raby
Katie Raby 9 months ago

If you could teach any subject for just one day, what would it be? No curriculum, no standards—just something you love and would have a blast teaching.

I'm going to hang back on answering it myself to see if there's anyone else with a similar answer!

    What a fun question!

I would teach all the students how to make yeast bread! Class would have to be a few hours long, but we could make other things during rising time.

    1. I would literally just have a book club.

    2. Native gardening class.

    3. Queer studies.

I love the book club idea! Any suggestions from what you've read recently?

I made bread once and decided that I am better off buying it from my local farmer's market Joy

I would like to explore more ways to use tabletop roleplaying games in an educational setting. There's been a lot of work done in the indie space to uplift marginalized perspectives and experiences. Solo and partner journaling games also provide great opportunities for students to practice writing skills in an engaging, low-stakes activity that builds in frequent intrinsic reward.

Thanks for starting this Katie Raby ! Similar to Donnetta Elsasser I would teach how to make an apple pie class! It includes making your own crust from scratch too.

I would do one on how to use Canva to create advertisements, how to use AI to study for exams, and one on dog trainings (not sure how to get the dogs to school though...)

I have been living this dream the last 10 years. I have been teaching a History of Rock and Roll course as an elective. The school has a very simple if x amount sign up, we will put it on the schedule and have been lucky enough to have enough students every semester.

I always joked to my mom that I wanted to get paid to talk about Bob Dylan, and each semester I do an entire week just on Bob Dylan (and try to time it around payday that month).

Native Gardening sounds like a lot of fun. I'm going to do a little indoor gardening with some of my students tomorrow for Earth Day.
