Book Recommendation for History Award

Laura Massa
Laura Massa 9 months ago

Hello community! I’m selecting a book for a senior who will be receiving our History Department Book Award this year, and I’d love your input. This student has a strong interest in both history and women’s studies, so I’m looking for something engaging and intellectually rich—perhaps a powerful biography, a social history, or a compelling narrative that highlights women’s voices or gender in historical context.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated! Adam Esrig Gwen Duralek Anne Koschmider Ebony McKiver

Although it is U.S. focused, I might suggest the Myth of Seneca Falls (Lisa Tetrault, 2014). Not only does it talk about the women's suffrage movement, it also talks about how the leadership of the movement deliberately shaped the narrative not only at the time, but (through the deliberate destruction of records), what we have come to "know" about the movement today.

Thank you Kathryn Nicholas I read the synopsis and it is fascinating. This is another wonderful option to consider.
