Who changed the world most?

Bridgette OConnor
Bridgette OConnor 1 month ago
From conquerors to peacemakers, rulers to revolutionaries—history is full of people who left a lasting mark on the world. But whose impact echoes the loudest?
  • Was it Genghis Khan, who built one of the largest empires in history?
  • Cleopatra, whose political and cultural influence shaped an era?
  • Harry Truman, who made decisions that defined the modern world order?
  • Gandhi, whose nonviolent resistance inspired movements across continents?
  • Or someone else entirely?
Cast your vote, then tell us why you chose them. How do you define “impact” when it comes to world history—and how do your students wrestle with that question?

I’m going to suggest Christopher Columbus, who was the first to connect the whole world, and what resulted from that connection, both positive and negative.

So many names come to mind...because of books.  So I'll vote for Johannes Gutenberg.

This is such a good question, and one I would love to pose to student's to see their responses!

As I am currently planning for Units 8 and 9, Gandhi is definitely a name that stuck out to me! His nonviolence resistance movements sparked a form of protest that would spread across the globe, and has long lasting impacts to the day.

What a great opener for class, or even could be stretched into an argumentative writing, using evidence from the course to back up their choice.
