It’s official: School is back in session. You’re showing up early, getting classrooms ready, and bringing the energy for your students, so we’d like to help fuel you.

What’s one thing making early mornings easier? A perfectly timed playlist? Lunch packed the night before? A truly heroic amount of caffeine?

I like to pack my lunch the night before. I like to make my coffee the night before. I like to lay my clothes out the night before. I like when my wifey irons my shirts the night before work too.

In the morning I like to do the New York Times puzzles, listen to my favorite radio station and drink a cup of coffee. It sets a good tone for the day.

A massive coffee. :D My school has a later start (9:15), so I often go in early before anyone else gets there to get stuff done. Then I'm starting first period calm, settled, and prepared.

Overnight oats and packed lunches the night before are the only way to survive a 7:30 AM start. Honestly though, if I forget to prep the breakfast, I’m just fasting until lunch. Smiley

I try to be an evening prepper too. Mornings go smoother if I have an outfit selection, lunch packed, and a plan for the morning workout!

Hope everyone is having a good back-to-school transition!

A quality pot of coffee in the morning is absolutely essential! Once I arrive in my classroom, I typically pull a vinyl record from my collection (I keep most of my vinyl at school since I spend more time there than at home!) and spin the record while I get the room prepped for the day. Nothing like some Dave Brubeck and the remnant of that quality pot of coffee to start the workday.

A couple of things really make the day go a lot smoother:

    - The coffee machine set the night before to automatically start brewing at 5am. Why it takes a herculean effort to remember to do this, I don't know.

    - Lunch prepped during the weekend and/or the night before.

    - l have a long commute - so after I take one train ride (one hour), if the next train comes within moments and makes my commute an hour and 15-20 min rather than 30-45 then the day feels like it's going swimmingly.

I am lucky that my school provides excellent breakfast and lunch, but coffee is still one of the few things I bring from home. I love strong, Italian-style coffee, and I also enjoy Turkish coffee, which I prepare at home. Caffeine is essential for me to get through the day feeling alert, energized, and ready to go!

Getting lunch ready and bags packed the night before, a good walk with the dog, and Earl Grey tea with lemon for me!
