Draw the Frames: Student Samples

I know most of you have probably passed this lesson, but I wanted to share some student samples from the 'Draw the Frames' activity.  I thought the activity went well and I got a lot of variety!  I hope that the students really understand the frame concepts now, and I am excited to see their ideas progress throughout the year.  It would be interesting to do this at the end of the year and compare to these September versions.

This first drawing is by a student who is taking Big History at the same time (not common in my school, but he transferred in).  Do any Big History teachers know if corn is discussed this early?  I'm so curious about why this student chose corn!

These next two samples are from ESL students (the first is Guatemala and the second is Costa Rica).  I loved that they were able to get involved so early in the year and incorporate their native countries.

This last one is a local example.  This student did a nice job with the details!

Former Memberlove your student samples.  I had similar luck with engaging students in this activity.  When they create their own representations of the frames, they come to have a stronger understanding and better application of the concepts later on in the lesson, especially with the videos.  Their small group conversations were rich with content and debate on the connections between the two or more of the frames.
