Contagion

The Contagion activity in APWH Unit 2 is one of my favorites to use in looking at the Black Death https://www.oerproject.com/OER-Materials/OER-Media/PDFs/AP-World-History/Unit2/Contagion?Id=3034&share=link

My variation starts it out as a trading system game without mentioning the Black Death. Then, I reveal who is Patient 0, and how easy it was for them to spread the plague.

Here's my version: https://brownsburgk12in-my.sharepoint.com/:p:/g/personal/mnowotarski_brownsburg_k12_in_us/EdvI9mdf3uRAk-Cilnois5ABcD7CwvgW0BjMj0xgkxYQ6A?e=XKGD0d

What variations have you made to this activity?

This has always been such a favorite of mine! I use it as a hook at the start of class and then dive into the context 1492. I argue that without 1347-1348, you don't get 1492. The idea is that with the Black Death, you get a series of events leading to Columbus departing for a trade route to connect with the Indian Ocean trade system.
