How do you teach or model executive function skills with your students?

I do the modern classrooms model of teaching, where things are self-paced and then there are still collective due dates. There's a tracker that students have at the beginning of each unit so that they can plan ahead when they're out, or that there are clear expectations. Wayne Zhang I read about the concept of modern classroom but I never used it. What advantages do you find in this pedagogical approach?
