Drawing the Frames of an empire

Hayden Brown
Hayden Brown over 4 years ago

This year is my first time teaching WHP and I have just launched into the first group assessment piece. I have tweaked the drawing the frames activity to make it fit into the theme of Empires.

I would love some feedback and suggestions on how it can be improved

    Hayden Brown,

Thanks for sharing! What grade level are you teaching? I like the overall setup and would definitely echo some of the feedback below, perhaps making some slides a bit less dense in regards to information, but I’d be concerned that perhaps there might be a few too many things included in the requirements. I also tend to, perhaps to my detriment at times, feel that ‘less is more’ and would look the red list of items under ‘Defining an Empire,’ and try to slim it down a bit to something like this:

    • Include the following:
      • Methods of control
      • At least 2-3 important ideas, events, & individuals
      • CCoT - how this empire fits into what has changed and stayed the same over time

This might be a bit less than what you would like to incorporate but could result in a higher quality of work. What are the things you care about the most for this assignment?

Good advice from everyone has kept me focused on what's important. Here is my task sheet for the project. It contains a few pointers from all of you and keeps the main features I wanted to include. Thanks John Mason Brian Moore Anne Koschmider Curtis Greeley Ben Tomlisson

    Hayden Brown,

This scoring guide looks great! I can definitely see some more of the focus in this one. Year 10 - what age group is that? I'd love to hear more about how this goes with your students once you get to try it out. Also, what model are you currently teaching? In-person? Hybrid?
