Drawing the Frames of an empire

Hayden Brown
Hayden Brown over 4 years ago

This year is my first time teaching WHP and I have just launched into the first group assessment piece. I have tweaked the drawing the frames activity to make it fit into the theme of Empires.

I would love some feedback and suggestions on how it can be improved

It seems as if what you have here could work as an assessment by itself, but if you're looking for something else, Ben Tomlisson shared a great idea in January.  Instead of the anatomy/autopsy of an empire, have students create a coat of arms or shield depicting the achievements or characteristics of that empire.  Instead of classic heraldry icons, students would find images that best represent those associated with their empire.

I do really enjoy this idea! Could even adapt it to something more akin to the modern day by giving the option for it to be a gamertag and incorporating the design of a particular avatar with their own custom skins that also describe key parts of the empire. Would be a tall ask for some of the students but I bet others would really enjoy it.

That's a really creative idea! You're absolutely right, I already know the kids that would rush to do something like this and others that will be rolling their eyes (just like any other activity).  Full disclosure - I totally had to google gamertag, but now it makes sense to me.

No shame, we are well into that age where the youngin's language makes us feel old...until we google them then we are back in the young'ish cool teacher zone (theoretically speaking).
