Lithuania During WWII

Hi, Julianne Horowitz !

Any other ideas Todd Nussen Anne Koschmider Bryan Dibble Jason Manning

When a colleague was building our History of the Holocaust elective, she brought Yad Veshem to my attention. They have a curation of resources including images, documents, background information, etc.

Tyrone Shaw , do you have any suggestions for Julianne?

Thank you Curtis Greeley and Anne Koschmider these resources will give me a lot to thumb through on my prep period today!

Hi Julianne Horowitz are you looking for Holocaust-specific materials, or more generally about the experience of Lithuanians in WWII?

More holocaust related, but as far as I understand, victims were targeted by NKVD more for political dissent or capitalist leanings.  I'm hoping students can find commonalities but also recognize some differences as they pan out from the German example to some other lesser-known examples.

Here's a site of a Lithuanian museum that could have some information for you. When I visited Lithuania, it was striking how there was much more resentment of the Soviet occupation than the German.

Ok, good to know. The USHMM Holocaust Encyclopedia entry on Lithuania is pretty good and includes a great testimony clip from Nesse Godin. If you want students to be more inquiry-led, you can have them search the Echoes and Reflections Timeline of the Holocaust for Lithuania and report back on what they found.

And more for your reading than the students, Black Earth and Bloodlands are two books by Timothy Snyder that discuss this period.

I second John Vidoli  on Bloodlands.
