Video Resource

Crash Course and Arizona State University are teaming up for a new YouTube series, called Study Hall. 

They have 30 Modern World History videos ranging from the Mongols to the present day. Looks like some good stuff! 

In particular, I thought "Who really fought the Cold War?" was a nice fit with WHP because it connects the Cold War with decolonization using the Angolan Civil War as an illustrative example. I'll be looking through the earlier content to see what I can use next year too.

  • Thank you for sharing these  ! Totally going to share with the Global History teachers in my building that are starting to prepare their students for our state regents exam. 

    I see crash course also has collaborated with them on this. Love crash course & the Green brothers' videos. I will say though, whenever I've suggested using those videos as a study tool or used them in the classroom, the main feedback from students was that John Green spoke a little bit too fast. These videos are not so fast and are easier to understand. All while keeping the same style of awesome crash course visuals!

     agreed! I love a good Crash Course video, but students have a hard time sorting out key points when the host speaks at such a rapid clip. I noticed that John Green speaks slower in the second round of World History videos and in the European History series, so I'm guessing the Crash Course folks have received that feedback. There are also a few cultural and (no longer) current event references in the original videos that don't click for students watching 10 years later. 

    I'm also excited for the Psychology series Study Hall is developing. Spread the word if you have psych teachers that might be interested!

    Oh I had no idea they are also expanding and adding a Psychology series! We have a psychology elective- I will definitely share this news with the teacher who teaches the course! Love that they are expanding their videos- they are so great. I found CC to be such a great study tool in college, these videos also seem so valuable for the same reasons!
