Julianne Horowitz this one intrigued me too. My first inclination was to pose that question to students and have them weigh evidence from both perspectives. However, I was surprised to see the Study Hall host take a pretty firm stance that the US is indeed a modern empire. I'm wondering if I might need a companion text to balance this out. Or perhaps I just need a different approach.

How do you plan to use the video?

I see what you mean about the one-sidedness in this one.  I think maybe I would embrace that, and replicate the Claim Testing - Evidence activity (from 1750 Unit 3) using the transcript for this video.  So in the end the kids would see the argument for what it is, and then maybe evaluate which claims/evidence are strongest, and which are weakest, and refute just one based on prior learning. 

Nice.  Thanks for sharing these resources Anne.  I've only checked out a couple but they look like they could work well in any place in a lesson (even as a homework).  

I am thinking I could use these with my World class to replace some of the Crash Course episodes I still show.  What do you think?  

These videos are great! I just found this post, but in the fall semester I used the "Expansion of the Silver Trade" video -- it is excellent! I found the video after my students worked with the Silver Trade DBQ, so I used it more as enrichment material. 

Brenda Garcia sounds like we are on the same page - I also used the silver trade video alongside the DBQ!
