Hey everyone! 

Maybe some of you have time left before the year starts, but my inservice week started today, so it's getting real! My schedule changed a bit and I lost my finance class, but I still want to see if I can make connections in my 1200 course. Has anyone ever connected joint stock companies (British East India, Dutch VOC) to the modern stock market? I was thinking I could have students "adopt" different companies and make it a contest over the course of a month or so in November/December when we're on the topic to see who gains the most and do a reflection.

  • I love this idea but have not done it. What I HAVE done, is connected the VOC and their laws in the charter in the Banda Islands with the laws and paramilitary etc playbook that we see with the banana industry in the bananaland documentary. That does a pretty effective job at showing the kids that really not much has chnaged.
