Which World War I Clips do you use?

While I've never shown a full length film to my classes on World War I, I always find myself using clips from a number of movies.  I can't even recall how many different clips I've shown and from what movies and documentaries, but these are the ones I have used for the last two years.  I show the first two back-to-back when we examine the new weapons of war.  The No Man's Land clip when we examine trench warfare and the last one to show a bit of humanity.  I'm always wondering what others use.  Any clips from 1917? Am I missing other important scenes from War Horse or All Quiet on the Western Front?  Other movies or documentaries?

For militarism:

Machine gun v. cavalry War Horse Scene

Tank v. machine gun All Quiet on the Western Front tanks scene

For No Man's Land

War Horse Battle of the Somme

For Humanity:

Christmas Truce 1914

This Google Slides is in a series of lessons on WWI.  Our focus in my American History through War class in this unit is "Historical Letters" - the project is having the students write historical fiction letters that seem real.  So we investigate the history of course, but we also have to research the lingo, the slang of the times.  I use a clip of WWI from the 2002 movie The Lost Battalion.  Since we focus on the Americans, I like this clip because it shows the grittiness of war, but also the dynamics of a "by the book" officer from New York, and a young southern lieutenant.  Also the scene where the captain, who is battle savvy, is convincing the young lieutenant what he's got to do in the attack, knowing full well he probably will be killed.  The link to the video is in slide 9.

I'm with your Bryan, I've always enjoyed doing some kind of "letter from the trenches" assignment.  Made the mistake this year of making it a homework assignment.  I'll give chatGPT an A+.  This year, we did them in class and they were actually hand written.  I was happy to see some really thoughtful and creative responses.

Todd Nussen   We attended the funeral for homework the week after Chat GPT came out in December of '22.  RIP homework, you were so intimidating and always late.
