World War II

I'm planning my World War II unit this week, and I wanted to share the one video that makes the biggest impact on my students every year. It is The Fallen World War II. The number of people killed during World War II is so large that students, and if I'm honest, my brain can not comprehend the numbers, but this video, with its simple graphics, gets the point across every time about how devasting the war was. I read an article once about how the human brain can't visualize large numbers without assistance, and this video provides that assistance. For most of the OER videos, I have them stop and ask discussion questions, but this one is so impactful that I play the whole video before discussing it. I hope this helps you plan your World War II unit.

Absolutely agree.  This is one of my favorite video resources.  I often find myself explaining to students that the first half of the year we're learning how we got to World War II (arguably the worst event in human history) and the second half of the year is what the world has been like since and what lessons have we learned.  This video is the perfect way to connect these two ideas.
