Imagining the Future

Hello all! Just a quick shoutout to everyone in the community. I had a blast getting to know everyone and bouncing ideas around in the forums.  Thank you for the conversations!

Coming to the end of the first summer session for world history B over here in Arizona. I asked my students to consider the future. How different would it be from today's world? How many people would there be? How would they live? How long would they live? Would there be a world government or many small, local governments?

I also asked them to imagine a future that they did not like and asked the same questions as above.

We wrapped up the discussion imagining what the most likely scenario for the future would be and ended on the premise that it would probably be some of both the good and the less desirable.

AI was the huge winner in terms of impacting the world going forward. There were quite a few interesting job choices and the majority felt they could just get ready-made food in their own homes via machines.

Everyone have a restful and safe summer!

How do you think your learners might have answered?

These are fantastic questions, Jim! The ready made food machines would come in handy come June! Haha!

My students were also very interested in Ai. I will say, I did save this unit for the very last week of school and was concerned about how high engagement would be. To my surprise, engagement was at an all time high because of how interesting the topic was. We had a depart on whether or not the benefits outweighed the setbacks of AI. I really like your questions about the future in general- and think this could be a nice addition to my AI debate next year!

    Interesting questions.

Like Adriane Musacchio 's kids, I think the good with the bad-- or the bad with the good-- is a theme that carries on.

I'm curious, how far into the future did you have them project? Ready-made food machines seems a bit farther out there than "near" future.  Ha!
