Where did all the geography activities go?

Hey y'all. Just wondering where all the geography materials disappeared to when you switched us over to the new version. I came back from a leave of absence and all of the materials I was familiar with have been removed. Any help would be appreciated!

Hi! I'm assuming you're talking about the maps.

It's somewhat buried in the Teacher resources.

Thanks, Will! I was actually looking for the activities that used to be part of the WHP Origins course. I see they have been removed from the site as part of the shift to the new approach, but I was hoping they still had them archived someplace so that I could use them until they roll out new ones. Apparently they were too difficult according to educator feedback, but I liked them.

The maps on these course materials lack the high quality zoom the previous ones did it seems. Seriously, removing these is more evidence as to why many people suffer with geography in public education. Curriculums straight removed them!

Hayden George The high quality zoom maps are still available, as they always were! Because of the extremely high resolution needed for these maps, the activity pdfs never had the high quality zoom in them (they were hyperlinked in the pdf). The deep zoom has always been on our site. You can find links to the full deep zoom versions of all our maps, on our maps index here: https://www.oerproject.com/OER-Materials/OER-Media/PDFs/Worksheets/WHP-Maps-Index

In addition, we've recently added a maps and geography topic page! https://www.oerproject.com/topics/maps that's designed to be the one-stop shop for maps (including the index).

And we have more maps coming. There are a bunch of new political maps that will be loaded to the site very soon, including for 476 CE, 1789, and 1939, among others. And we're working on a brand new series of regional maps--more on that later this year. We're also working on a mid- and long-term plan to address geography in the world history courses, but as Becca says, in the meantime, you can find the old maptivities in the Google Drive course archive (in the first and last lesson of every unit) https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1xpOAj-fqhEDtO9CSjEhe46bw82srEEGj

I promise, our commitment to geography and maps is still strong!

Shawn Turner Hayden George Thank you for your patience! I wanted to let you know that we have compiled the maptivity links in one document and mapped them to the lessons they belong to in the new course format: https://www.oerproject.com/OER-Materials/OER-Media/PDFs/Teacher-Resources/OER-Project-WH-Maptivities-Archive

You can also find the pdf in Teacher Resources and on our Geography and Maps topic page
