Hi everyone! I’m looking forward to the session with National Geographic Explorer Tara Roberts tonight.
The Listening Guide that accompanies her podcast is incredibly classroom-friendly—plenty of good discussion questions, graphic organizer suggestions, and extension activities that help students explore the transatlantic slave trade, identity, community storytelling, and historical memory.
I’ve been thinking about the best way to use these resources in my classroom. Here is what I am thinking so far:

Pair an episode with Source Collection: First Person Accounts - Transatlantic Slave Trade, then ask students to compare how historians, divers, descendants, and communities each tell this history.

Incorporate some of the extension activities on mapping, artifacts, or shipwreck archaeology
Has anyone else thought about how to use the podcast and listening guide? Or is there a specific episode or questions that you think will really resonate with your students? Have you used this podcast already? I think Tara Roberts would be delighted to know how it is being used in the classroom!
