Classroom Connection: Society of Forgotten Explorers

Becca Horowitz
Becca Horowitz 5 months ago

The Explorers Club shared stories from the Society of Forgotten Explorers, to highlight individuals whose contributions were overlooked in the history of exploration.

We want to hear what you're going to carry with you on your teaching expedition:

  • What stood out to you from the stories of Ibn Battuta, Benedict of Poland, and Mau Piailug?
  • What kind of mindsets do you hope to cultivate in students learning about explorers?
  • How do you help students switch scale to the level of individuals when learning history?

I had a meeting run over before this PD session, and I regret missing it!

This is going to be a great resource for unit 2 of 1200. There are enough examples to assign them in partners and make it into a project. The dream!

How do you plan to use this Will Nash ? Are you going to have students research the explorers and present? Something else? Love to hear how other teachers turn research into project outcomes!

Will Nash Meaghan Mihalic Eric Schulz Such a cool org, and a good way to engage students in thinking about scale and consequences of exploration. You can find the video recording on our PD blog
